HOW Fitness

A Note to Seniors...

Many people, when they think of aging, imagine becoming more and more disabled.  But our bodies were programmed for longevity, not weakness and dependence.  Genetics accounts for 30 percent of aging potential, leaving 70 percent in our own hands.  The U.S. Surgeon Generals have estimated that close to 85 percent of our most dreaded diseases could be prevented with appropriate lifestyle changes.  Age is NO excuse for infirmity!

Now with that being said...

I, of all people, understand that as we get older things become different.  Our bodies change, our outlooks on life change, the ease of simple things like unloading groceries from the car, unloading dishes from the dishwasher, changing a kitty-litter box - they can all become a challenge.  Heck!  Getting out of bed in the morning can be a challenge.  New aches and pains, new sprains, new injuries or sometimes needed surgeries...All of it can become overwhelming.  We lose confidence in our abilities and sometimes it just hurts too much to even try.  We become sedentary and accept that this is the "new norm" of our existence.

There's nothing to feel bad about if you're at this point in life. There is still hope and this does NOT need to be the case permanently!  It is proven that even the slightest amount of exercise daily can combat and/or reverse so MANY ailments due to aging and a sedentary lifestyle.  One of my favorite simple quotes I read (Don't ask me where!) was this...

"Exercise can make you feel weak, when it's ACTUALLY making you stronger."

And this is what I'm here for.  To help and assist in the process of getting strong again.  You DO NOT have to do this alone!  I know that I personally don't have the motivation or discipline to do some uncomfortable simple things (Especially if I have no immediate proof that they will work!) all by myself.  And I mean even if I KNOW these things are going to make my life better, I need to be held accountable to someone, and I need to be guided in the beginning - at least - until I start getting positive results (proof) that the "new way" is working.

If your starting point is simply getting the strength to walk to another room (with or without the use of a walking aid), then that's where we start.  If we start with a goal of walking to the end of the block (with or without the use of a walking aid), then that's what we work for.  There's no fitness level requirement for my assistance here.

All I ask for is HONESTY, OPEN-MINDEDNESS and a WILLINGNESS to give it a shot.  Hence the name "HOW" Fitness.  We can do this TOGETHER and the rewards will be so empowering that it will become the "new norm" without hesitation in no time.  It's all about taking the first step.  I look forward to sharing the journey with you.
